How to Organise a Successful Kids at Work Day
Planning for a Kids at Work day?
As the name suggests, Kids at Work (Kids@Work) is an event when staff get to bring their child to work so they can find out what their parents do, all while having fun!
Did you know? ‘Take Your Child to Work Day’, or ‘Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day’, originated from the United States, and is considered a national day there. Today, the event is popular internationally, even here in Singapore!
Having a Kids@Work day presents an opportunity for parent and child to bond, as children get to learn more about their parents’ lives. Children can also develop important values such as hard work and responsibility. Additionally, it can be a source of fun and excitement for employees as a departure from a routine day at the office.
Now that you have a basic idea of what a Kids at Work Day entails, and reasons for why you should organise one, here’s how to make it successful!
1. Pick a theme
2. Decide on your main activities
With a theme in mind, it’s time to decide the main highlights of your Kids at Work Day!
If you wish to introduce what your company is about and what the parents do at work, try coming up with fun and creative ways to do so. The LolliBox team had been previously engaged by the IMDA to organise a Kids@Work day. We decided to have an activity where kids got to create their very own “The IMDA Times” newspaper, linking to the IMDA’s role of regulating Singapore’s infocomm and media sector.
Other programme highlights worth considering include stage performances, such as a magic show or a bubble show. Even simple stage games can also go a long way in entertaining the children. Want more active fun? Have a bouncy castle or ball pit to bring about excitement and thrill.
Here at LolliBox, we offer fun activities such as craft buffets and live tote bag customisation booths, which never fail to bring smiles to kids’ faces.
3. Include fringe activities
For endless fun, add in some fringe activities to run throughout the event. Fringe activities serve to compliment your event and keep the children continuously entertained in the office. It also has the added bonus of preventing kids from running around while waiting for any main programmes to begin.
Some easy but fun fringe activities include balloon sculpting or glitter tattoos/face painting.
4. Lots and lots of decorations
Children love colour! Offices are not always the most bright and colourful places, so adding decorations is an easy way to make the event space more exciting and create a kid-friendly environment.
Remember how we talked about having a theme in mind earlier? Bring your theme to life with relevant decor and make the event space extra special and memorable for the children!
5. Gift a goodie bag
There is no better way for children to remember the fun day than by having them take home a bag full of goodies!
While a simple goodie bag containing treats and souvenirs can already bring a lot of joy, consider a goodie bag in the form of a fun activity kit! Kids will get to take something home and have fun even after they leave the office.
Organising a successful Kids at Work event is no easy feat, but with all the smiles and laughter it is bound to bring both parent and child, it will definitely be worth it!
