The Sporty Mama

1) Forest Adventure

If the high elements were your favourite memory from your OBS camp or secondary school camps, then Forest Adventure is for you!

Located in the lush Bedok Reservoir Park, Forest Adventure is Singapore’s first and only Treetop obstacle course, and offers an exciting adventure for all ages.

For you parents, you can join the Grand Course which comprises of 44 different obstacles including 3 giant zip lines over the reservoir for you to tackle. If your child is below the age of 10, they can join the Kids Course, which is specially designed for children aged 5 to 10. It has 22 crossings including two awesome zip lines.

It is highly recommended that you book in advance to ensure that there is an available slot for you. Otherwise, you may have to wait for the next available slot on the course or run the risk to be turned away (which is never a good experience for anyone!).

2) Boogie Away!

While going for an exercise as a form of Mother’s Day celebration may be unusual, it actually serves as a form of stress reliever. Being active can boost your feel-good endorphins and distract you from daily worries.

We know how boring exercising can get, so we found an interesting exercise that might just bring out the child in you.

Boogie Bounce is a form of exercise that uses trampoline as their main equipment of training. So make your childhood wishes come true by jumping on a trampoline to loud music, but this time, to keep fit!

1) Baking with your Kids

Yes! You CAN have a baking session with your kid without ending the day with flour all over the kitchen floor or having a chocolate-covered child.

ToTT’s Junior Chef Class allows parent and child to enjoy a baking/cooking session together, under the guidance of a chef. You can choose from an array of classes to attend, from learning how to bake unicorn cupcakes to burger macaroons to gyoza. On the weekend of Mother’s Day, there will be a baking class on Chocolate Orange Cupcakes.

This baking session does not only serve as a way for bonding, but it can also allow your child to use their hands in a coordinated manner. So for a yummy educational time, you can give ToTT’s Junior Classes a shot!

2) Grub Singapore

Mealtimes are always a hectic affair for parents of young children, from settling them down, to the feeding, and having to wolf down your own meals before the children get bored.

That’s why it is important to find a place with a family-friendly setting so that everyone gets to enjoy mealtime and we think GRUB does the job! Located in the heart of tranquil Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, GRUB serves hearty wholesome food in a casual, family-friendly setting, surrounded by lush greenery, water play areas and children’s playgrounds.

Besides their children-facility environment, they also serve western food with a local twist such as their Har Cheong Gai Burger, Chili Crab Pasta, and Paddlepop Ice Cream Cake. Sounds delish doesn’t it?

We highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a place to chill and relax while still letting your kids have some fun!

If your favourite pastime includes scrolling through Pinterest and looking at DIY crafts, then this craft workshop might be for you (and your child)! The Grandstand will be having Mother’s Day craft sessions over mother’s day weekend. Create everlasting bouquets in the form of foam roses!

When the children are busy making their crafts, they are more likely to open up and share about their day with you, and you could also use this time to find out more about them – hence forging a closer bond. Not to worry if you or your child is not artistically inclined as there will be facilitators around to help you!

2) Liberty Art Jam by Artify Studio

However if you prefer to release your inner Picasso through painting, try art jamming! There are many art jamming studios available but we found Artify Studio really interesting because of its pay-what-you-wish system – seriously! The beauty of the system is that you’re free to be kind enough to pay a little more if you’re feeling flush, or little less if you’re hard up.

With a homely feel to their studio, you can comfortablely unleash your creativity without any judgements (even if you’re not artistically-inclined)!

The Nature-loving Mama

1) Picnic

Instead of a typical Mother’s Day brunch at an overpriced café, why not head out to a nearby garden for a peaceful picnic? Not only is it more pocket-friendly, it also makes for a memorable Mother’s Day celebration by being able to spend more quality with your child. To pack for the picnic, you can get your little ones to help out with the preparation of simple finger-food such as sandwiches or fruits. (Tip: prep your food 1-2 days in advance, to avoid exhaustion right before the picnic!)

Here are some places to enjoy your picnic with a scenic view and ample space for your kid to run about.

Esplanade Roof Terrace

Chinese and Japanese Gardens

Marina Barrage

2) Explore Pulau Ubin

Living in tiny Singapore, it is sometimes difficult for us to forget that we can escape the hustle and bustle of the city WITHOUT having to travel overseas. Pulau Ubin is for-sure worth visiting with your child, to witness Singapore’s last kampong (let’s not forget that its also super affordable).

For a unique Mother’s Day experience, try Kayaking through the Island’s mangrove forests or perhaps exploring some of Pulau Ubin’s native plants and rare species of butterflies sounds better to you?

Whatever activities you choose to do, you’ll be sure to bring away experiences that are beyond what you can find in our modern city.

Getting there: Take a MRT to Tanah Merah Station à Take Bus 2 to Changi Village à Walk to Changi Jetty to take a boat
Operating hours: 6am to 6pm

For you social butterflies who prefer hanging out with your girlfriends, The Mind Café is a great way to unwind and have fun (without the alcohol). A board games café, they not only serve fantastic coffee, pastries and tasty sandwich, but they’re also all about sharing the love of board games.

Choose from the classics like Game of Life and Jenga, to the more bizarre ones like Slangology. (psst, we heard that their gaming package also comes with free-flow drinks and snacks)

Most of their rooms typically hold up to 2 people maximum, but they do have some rooms that can fit up to 8 persons. However the best part about VoiceBooth has got to be the price! For every 2 songs, you pay just $1 instead of an hourly rate! So grab your mummy friends along to VoiceBooth for a cheap Karaoke experience this Mother’s Day and sing to your favourite Korean OSTs!
