If and when everyone is forced to stay home, parents, you most definitely wont be alone and most definitely will be faced with having to entertain your kids for hours on end. FREE STAY HOME ACTIVITIES TO THE RESCUE!
So here we are, at LolliBox, scouring the web to help you find good quality free Stay Home Activities! Like true kiasu Singaporeans, who says learning cannot be fun and educational?
In this article, we will take you through the websites, doing your homework for you so that you can create homework for your kids. We kid.
#1 British Council
Did you know that British Council have quite a fine website? We didn’t. But we are glad our search turned this up. The website is clear with just 7 main broad sections. Perfect for your kids to start your Stay Home journey.
1. Listen and Watch – Using songs and short stories to ignite your kids interest in learning!
2. Read and Write – Here we have bits of composition, reading practices and more!
3. Speak and Spell – you get to sound, speak, spell and more in this section!
4. Grammar and Vocabulary – learn about tenses, nouns and more in the form of videos and word games!
5. Fun and Games – Here they are games and jokes for kids to have an interactive time.
6. Print and Make – kids can make flash cards and other educational crafts to aid in their learning!
7. Parents – they provide advice and tips to teach your child english
So, we clicked through to one of the links to see what we have –
On the Grammar and Vocabulary page, kids can learn about present, simple, present continuous tense, nouns and more. Wow. There are even reference cards to help you learn and remember! This is looking very impressive so far.
Here is an example of a game – Kids have to match the word to the image presented. Sound fun!

For parents who wants their children improve their English, we think this is quite a good option to use when teachers aren’t available. As it contains videos, songs and hand-ons component, there is lesser chance for kids to get bored too!
#2 Scholastic
The next one is from Scholastic – a renowned publishing brand. They have launched Learn at Home with lessons and activities for kids. Resources are even split by level which makes it even easier to find the right resource for your children!
Here, we have conveniently converted the educational level for you too.
Pre-K and kindergarten is up to 6 years old.
Grades 1 and 2 is 7 & 8 years old.
Grades 3 to 5 is 9 to 12 years old.
Grades 6 to 9 is 12 to 15 years old.
We clicked into pre-K and kindergarten to find out what they have. They seem to go by themes so for week 1, the theme is Animal Studies – Rabbits.

There is also an educational video that is similar to those seen on discovery channel – kids can even be quizzed online to see if they’d retain any knowledge from the video!
Lastly, there is also an activity tagged – we like how they showed what aspects of the child they are developing. For this, its movement/math.

For parents who wants their children to have more exposure to various knowledge bases rather than strictly academic based while at home. Colours on this website are also brighter and more eye-catching who could be beneficial in keeping your child’s attention.
#3 Kennedy Center
Let’s not forget the arts aspect of things! As you know, we love arts and crafts so imagine our delight at finding a Lunch Time Doodle broadcast from Kennedy Center! Here, a well-known illustrator got ready to entertain kids and take them through a different doodling session each day! All while in the comfort and safety of their home.
Here is the first episode where kids learn how to draw a pigeon with guidance from Mo Williams.
There is even an activity page for you to download!

For parents who are sick of educational content and want to do something fun too. Seriously, doodle with your kids. Find out who can doodle better. We dare you!
#4 Google
This resources takes you beyond Singapore – yes, you get to take a “excursion” while staying home!
Now this is pretty cool. Google Arts and Culture is now home to over 2500 museums from all over the world where their collections are accessible online!
From Van Goh Museum in Amsterdam to The Met In New York City to Singapore’s own National Art Museum, this holds quite the extensive list.
We also discovered that on the museums individual pages, you can even take a virtual exploration on the museum grounds! The below image is of the SAM in Singapore!

This is one for the arty parents and for parents who wants to break the monotony a little. Pro-tip: Make a day out of it – Prepare museum tickets and pretend to really be going to a real one!
#5 California Science Center
Here is for the stay home science lovers! California Science Center is having a series of “Stuck at Home Science” with a new video every weekday. Its filled with videos on how to create science experiments with your child at home!
Here, Kids got to learn to create a Pom Pom Launcher (all you need are pompoms, paper cup, tape and balloons apparently!) with things you can find at home!
There is even an activity guide for you to download!

For parents who want to do some scientific hands-on with their kids with very simple materials!
#6 NASA
If you are going to be science-ing at home, might as well science from a reputable and world-reknowned authority! Here, NASA has launched (pardon the pun) Teachable Moments where they have activities and lessons for kids up to 12 years!
On their website, you can filter the ages and subjects to your prefered one. The subjects are Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics. You can also choose the type – game, project, slideshow or video!
We click into one of the projects where you can “Make A Cardboard Rover”!
There are step by step instructions post-project exercises that asks kids to evaluate their project.
There was even a Redesign component that encourages kids to make changes to improve their performance! Talk about Little Scientists-in-Training!

Because STEM – we know this is something all parents go gaga about so why not tap on these free resources to enrich your child’s learning experience and kickstart their curious just in time for school!

#7 Learn At Home with Youtube
Before you write this off because Youtube, rest assured that these are not the run-of-the-mill shows that kids watch at home. Learn At Home has curated educational and fun videos based on age groups.
Check it out! They have even kindly categorized them by ages!
We click through to the preschoolers sections to see that they have channels for all sorts of learning! There is quite alot of variety in the content – plenty to choose from.

For any parents who wants some visual assistance for your child’s time at home. Also good for last minute scramble of entertainment.
